This is not some made up label with a cute marketing scheme…this is a single vineyard, low-yield, meticulously cared for wine that completely over delivers on the price. A wine that isn’t about subtlety of complexity but rather, sheer force and utter deliciousness. Every once in a while, this is perfectly acceptable. Pure, unadulterated power!!!
The 2016 pre-harvest weather was on the whole very good. The warm early season led to early ripening of the vineyards, with vintage starting approximately 10 days earlier than in 2015. A couple of hot spells (that didn’t last too long), came early enough to have little effect on the ripening patterns of the fruit. The cool nights this year were very beneficial, keeping the natural acidity of the grapes high, and reducing levels of water stress that can be common in this region. As a result, the fruit was in excellent condition, showing full color and rich flavor. The clusters were destemmed and fermented whole berry in 10-ton open top concrete fermenters with twice daily pump-overs. Basket pressed with ferment finishing off in barrel / tank.
Lifted aromatics with spice, plums and cherry. Medium bodied flavors follow through from the aromatics with plenty of “raw power”. As the wine opens-up over time in the glass, it displays riper tannins and a lipsmacking savory finish.
